Frequently Asked Question

How long does it take to backup data from my CCTV System ?
Last Updated 9 years ago

It really depends on how you are backing up your data, USB (1.1 / 2), Local Network (Wired/Wireless), Through Internet (3G/4G/ADSL/Fibre).

If the system is recording live video while you are backing up the past recording, it'll also affect the speed of backup as the system's harddisk would need to concurrently record the live footage while retrieving the past recording from another sector of the harddisk.

Estimated Transfer Speed of 1TB assuming system is also doing concurrent recording.

USB 1.1 Thumbdrive Direct from DVR – Est 11 Days
USB 2 Thumbdrive Direct from DVR – Est 12 Hours, 36 Minutes
Local Network / Wireless N – 100Mbps Network – Est 1.5 Days
Local Wireless G – 54Mbps Network – Est 2.5 Days
ADSL Internet (257Kbps Upstream) – Est 10 Months
Fibre Internet (10Mbps Upstream) – Est 15 Days.
1TB can store ard 23 Days of Recording for 4 Cameras @ 1Mbps biterate.

You can also use this online calculator to check. Do take into consideration the overhead required for each of the transfer mode.

Just take note.

Using a SATA II Direct Cloning with 0% overhead, it'll take around 45 mins to clone a 1TB harddisk.

Using SATA III (Fastest speed at the moment, Both Harddisk must be SATA III and the device support full SATA III Speed) direct cloning with 0% overhead, it'll take around 23 mins to clone a 1TB harddisk.

1TB = 222 Pieces of DVD. There's huge data. Huge Data takes time to transfer.
